The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod has approved a resolution recognizing and supporting the observance of Pride Month this June 2026, reaffirming the City’s commitment to equality, inclusivity, dignity, respect, and non-discrimination for all Bacolodnons.
Authored by Councilors Caesar Z. Distrito, Celia Flor, and Em Ang, the resolution acknowledges the valuable contributions of members of the LGBTQIA+ community to the social, cultural, educational, economic, and civic life of Bacolod City and underscores the importance of fostering a community where every individual is treated with dignity and afforded equal opportunities.
Councilor Distrito emphasized that the measure is rooted in the fundamental principles of human rights and equal protection enshrined in the Constitution.
“This resolution is a reaffirmation of Bacolod City’s commitment to uphold the dignity of every person and to promote a community where diversity is respected, inclusion is encouraged, and discrimination has no place,” Distrito said.
The resolution recognizes Pride Month as an opportunity to promote awareness, understanding, acceptance, and mutual respect among all citizens while encouraging efforts to prevent discrimination, bullying, harassment, and violence.
Councilor Flor noted that an inclusive society benefits everyone.
“By recognizing Pride Month, we acknowledge the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community and reinforce the principle that every Bacolodnon deserves respect, fairness, and equal treatment,” Flor said.
Councilor Ang likewise highlighted the importance of solidarity and community participation in promoting inclusivity and human rights.
Under the resolution, city departments, educational institutions, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders are encouraged to participate in lawful activities and initiatives that promote awareness, respect for diversity, and the protection of human rights.
The measure reflects the continuing commitment of the City Government of Bacolod to advance policies and programs that uphold human dignity, social inclusion, and equal opportunity for all sectors of society.
The SP Resolution expressed hope that the observance of Pride Month will serve as a reminder that building a stronger and more compassionate Bacolod requires recognizing and respecting the rights and dignity of every individual, regardless of gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.*
