Cong. Ferrer on the Briefing Re Status of the Visayas Power Grid and the Repeated Yellow & Red Alerts

Today, the House Committees on Energy, chaired by Congressman Jose C. Alvarez; Visayas Development, with Congresswoman Janice Degamo presiding; and Legislative Franchises, chaired by Congressman Jeffrey P. Ferrer, conducted a joint briefing on the status of the Visayas power grid, particularly the repeated yellow and red alerts affecting the region.

Department of Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin presented the current Visayas power situation and measures to strengthen grid reliability, including the audit and restoration of power plants, additional battery energy storage, improved transmission capacity, and the development of more renewable energy sources.

Also joining the briefing were representatives from the NEA, ERC, NPC, TRANSCO, NGCP, PEMC, IEMOP, and PHILRECA, together with generation companies such as Therma Visayas, Panay Energy Development Corporation, GNPower Kauswagan, KEPCO SPC/KSPC, Palm Concepcion Power Corporation, and Cebu Energy Development Corporation, as well as electric cooperatives and distribution utilities from across the Visayas.

The briefing highlighted efforts to ensure a reliable, affordable, and sufficient power supply for households, businesses, farmers, and communities across the Visayas.* (CJF SMP photos)
