Ongoing Evacuations in Several Barangays Due to Flash Floods in Bacolod
Continuous and torrential rainfall over the past several hours has triggered flash floods and caused several rivers in Bacolod City to overflow this Saturday evening.
Many rivers are now almost overflowing due to the heavy volume of rain from the mountain as well as eastern portions of the city which caused flood waters to rise very quickly.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reports that evacuations are currently underway in Barangays Villamonte, Singcang-Airport, 14, 10, 31, 36, and 40 due to rising floodwaters in these areas.
Personnel from the City Engineer’s Office Rapid Drainage Response Team are simultaneously conducting clearing and declogging operations along major roads and streets already affected by flooding to help ensure water flows freely.
The CDRRMO continues to closely monitor water levels in the city’s rivers and creeks, especially with high tide peak at around 2.03 meters expected at around 10:00 PM.
Mayor Greg Gasataya urges residents to remain vigilant, closely monitor flood conditions in their communities, and proceed to evacuation areas at the earliest sign of danger.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a Yellow Heavy Rainfall Warning Advisory for Bacolod City at 8:00 PM due to the Shear Line affecting parts of the country.* (BCCO)
