FREELANCER: Storm Opong’s Threat, ‘Bending the Law’, Negros Trade Fair

September 25, 2025

More “shocking” revelations at the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s investigation into the flood control mess have given the public more insights on how government money intended for their welfare ended into the pockets of some government officials.

I agree, more personalities will either be dragged into or be revealed in the coming days. Although every accusation remains as such, the people wanted the proper courts to see the real guilty to be jailed, and the innocent to be vindicated.

I hope those named congressmen allegedly involved in the multi-billion-peso fiasco will also be invited or summoned to the Senate hearings.

If some can say that “bending some laws can be done for the sake of the people who wanted the truth”, then we might as well bend that “inter-parliamentary courtesy” for the sake of the people, too who want to know the truth.

Senators must be able to invite or summon congressmen in cases like this, and vice versa.

Prepare for Storm Opong.

Whether Severe Tropical Storm “Opong” will become a typhoon or downgrade to just a storm, we in Negros Island Region must prepare for any eventuality.

Everyone knows that a weather disturbance like Opong can alter its course in a matter of hours. This must compel us not to be complacent.

Possible heavy rains and gusty winds are still expected despite Opong’s distance from NIR. It is enhancing the prevailing Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) that is affecting NIR, Panay, Cebu, and other Visayan islands.

Negros Trade Fair.

It is heartwarming to see that both Negros Occidental and Oriental provinces, and the Province of Siquijor have joined together at the ongoing 39th Negros Trade Fair being held at the SMX Convention Center at SM Aura Premier in Taguig City.

We saw Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson and Vice Giv. Joeben Alonso, Negros Oriental Gov. Chaco Sagarbarria, and some Siquijor officials on opening day Monday.

With the participation of the Oriental and Siquijor provinces, the trade fair has become truly a Negros trading event showcasing what the Negros Island Region, the provinces and their local government units, as well as their entrepreneurs, have to offer.

With the series of success stories for the past 38 years that the Negros Trade Fair have achieved, I believe it will achieve another success this year.

By the way, how about a similar trade fair in, say Cebu?* (APT)
