Cauayan Mayor Tabujara on 2025 polls, Chacha
“I’m ready and open to anyone who may want to run against me in 2025.”
This was the reply of Cauayan Mayor John Rey Tabujara when asked today by reporters on reports that somebody wants to challenge him in 2025.
Tabujara, in confirming that he will seek reelection next year for his third term, said he cannot stop anyone from running against him.
This is democracy, he said, adding that if he will have an opponent “I will then know if the people still love me or not anymore”
He said that “perhaps the person who also wants to run (for mayor) can also help the people of Cauayan.”
“They should prove to the people that they are worthy to run for public office,” Tabujara pointed out.
‘NEUTRAL ON CHACHA’
The mayor also told newsmen that as of the moment he is “neutral” to the ongoing signature campaign that is pushing for amendments to the 1987 Constitution.
“I can’t say I am in favor or against the move as it will still go through the process. If the people will sign let them sign, if they won’t then they should not be forced,” he said, adding that he is opposed to the idea of paying the people for their signature.
Tabujara, also during an interview at his office today, said he is supporting amendments to the economic provisions of the Constitution, adding that private groups are spearheading the signature campaign in Cauayan.
Records of the Commission on Elections provincial office showed that a total of 6,848 signatures were collected from Cauayan as of January 22.* (EYA)
