Typhoid cases in province up by 86%
Typhoid cases in Negros Occidental increased by 86.6 percent in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, data from the Provincial Health Office showed.
The PHO reported that from January 1 to March 29 there were 387 cases in the province, or 179 cases more cases compared to only 208 recorded during the same period in 2024.
Thirty of the 31 local government units recorded typhoid cases with Kabankalan City logging the most number at 96 cases.
Data also showed that there were three confirmed fatalities due to typhoid.
Typhoid is caused by the bacteria salmonella typhi, which spreads through contaminated food and water or close contact with an infected person.* (EYA)
