Most of 200 gun ban violators nabbed in Western Visayas are from Negros Occidental and Iloilo

The Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) said Sunday that they have recorded a total of 200 gun ban violators in Western Visayas as of May 07, 2022.

Based on data released by PRO-6, Negros Occidental has the biggest number of gun ban-related arrests with a total of 68.

Iloilo province has 32, Aklan with 25, Iloilo City with 20, Bacolod City with 19, Antique with 17, Capiz with 11, and Guimaras with eight.

A total of 113 firearms, and 100 different types of bladed weapons were seized in the arrests.

The latest gun ban violator the region as of May 7 is 33-year-old Darryl Daza of Barangay Vista Alegre in Bacolod.

According to PRO-6, Daza was arrested at around 6 p.m. Saturday. They confiscated a 10-inch knife from the suspect.

PRO-6 director Police Brigadier Gen. Flynn Dongbo lauded the collective effort of all unit commanders across the region for the strict implementation of the gun ban since January 9, 2022.

“Congratulations and thank you on your individual contribution in strictly implementing the gun ban. This endeavor helped us a lot in preventing the occurrence of crimes in different localities during this election period. I urge you to intensify the conduct of COMELEC checkpoints in your respective area of responsibility as May 9, 2022 polls near and sustain until June 8, 2022,” Dongbo added.* (DGB)
