P34-M worth of shabu intercepted in Escalante City

March 4, 2022

Some P34 million worth of suspected shabu was intercepted by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) – Negros Occidental in a buy-bust operation at Barangay Old Poblacion in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, early 4 this morning.

Authorities arrested the suspected courier Vicente Sepuesca, a resident of Barangay Sum-ag, City.

PDEA operative “Agent Bamboo” said Sepuesca came from Cebu and they believe that the illegal drugs they seized originated either from Cebu or Metro Manila.

PDEA agents recovered the shabu from five bags labeled as Chinese tea, with a combined weight of five kilograms, as well as the buy-bust money amounting to P63,100.

It is now the largest seizure of illegal drugs in the province following the P20.4 million shipment recovered at the BREDCO Port in Bacolod by joint operatives of PDEA, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Bacolod City Police Office earlier in January.

Sepuesca is now detained at the Escalante City Police Station on drug-related charges.

PDEA has also launched an investigation as they have strong suspicion that Sepuesca may be working for a drug group operating in the province.* (DGB)
