LTFRB-NIR regional office in Dumaguete and mobile office inaugurated

Public utility vehicle (PUV) operators in the Negros Island Region (NIR) can expect faster and more convenient franchise processing with the establishment of a regional office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Dumaguete City.
LTFRB Acting Chair Greg Pua Jr. and LTFRB-NIR Regional Director Gerry Llena led the blessing and inauguration of the office at a privately owned complex in Barangay Daro (in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental) on Wednesday.
They also inaugurated a mobile office housed in a newly customized bus with 10 service desks, air conditioning and internet connectivity.
The mobile office will travel across Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor to bring LTFRB services closer to transport operators and other stakeholders.
“This is a momentous occasion, not only for LTFRB, but for NIR and our public utility operators as our services will now be within your reach,” Pua said. “This aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to bring government services closer to the people.”
Pua acknowledged the challenges of establishing regional offices following NIR’s creation as a permanent administrative region in 2024, particularly the lack of a dedicated national government budget.
The complex also houses a motor vehicle inspection center, practical driving examination center, insurance services and other related facilities.
Before the regional office opened, public transport operators in Negros Oriental had to travel to Cebu to process their franchises and comply with related requirements.
Llena said the mobile office would visit as many communities as possible across the three provinces to make the agency’s services more accessible.
“We want to deliver the programs and services of LTFRB straight to the riding public and stakeholders, and to our constituents,” Llena said.
He said the mobile facility would help reduce transportation costs for operators and other clients who previously had to travel to Dumaguete or outside the region to process their requirements.
The (Negros Oriental) provincial government would allocate space at the new government center to national government agencies, including a Land Transportation Office satellite branch.* (Mary Judaline Partlow/PNA)
