Jovymar: A Taekwondo Pride of Cadiz
Cadiz City takes pride in another Cadiznon capturing global attention.
His name may not be as popular as others, but his accomplishments have gone far beyond what many expected from him.
He proves that true greatness does not always seek attention. He is a silent achiever with the heart and strength of a giant.
While many young athletes seek recognition, 17-year-old Jovymar Cadiz Gane of Barangay Mabini, Cadiz City, continues to let his performance speak for itself.
Despite keeping a low profile, Jovymar has built a record in taekwondo that has carried the name of Cadiz City from local competitions to the international stage.
Through years of discipline and training, he has become one of the city’s promising athletes, bringing pride and honor to his parents, Mirasol and Jovic Gane.
Jovymar is currently a Grade 11 student at the National Academy of Sports in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac, where he has been studying since Grade 8 after passing the school’s training and qualifying examinations.
He was one of only three scholar-athletes from Cadiz City who qualified for admission.
The National Academy of Sports is a government-run educational institution in the country that provides secondary education integrated with high-level sports training for talented student-athletes.
It offers full scholarship support, including free tuition, boarding, lodging, and structured training programs designed to prepare athletes for national and international competitions.
Before transferring to NAS, he studied at Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School during Grade 7 and completed his elementary education at West 1 Elementary School.
Jovymar began training in taekwondo at the age of six under Coach Dexter Chavez.
Since then, he has won gold medals in provincial, regional, and national invitational tournaments.
In 2025, he also captured a gold medal in an international competition in Indonesia.
His achievements earned him the “Senior Male Kyorugi Jin of the Year” award at the National Academy of Sports, recognizing his performance and contribution to the sport.
This year, Jovymar will once again represent Central Luzon (Region III) in the Palarong Pambansa 2026 scheduled on May 23–31 in Agusan del Sur. It will be his third time representing the region in the national competition.
For many young athletes, Jovymar’s journey stands as proof that success is not always measured by popularity, but by commitment, consistency, and the results earned through hard work.* (Erwin Mabugat)
