Surate HP Claims Finals Spot

Ultra 3 outlasted Van Cruiser, 81-76, putting them a step closer to semi-finals of Fil-Sino 1st Zelda Cup Basketball Tournament. The former jumped out to a good start securing a one-point lead after the first quarter 18-17. The latter turned it up in the second, outscored Ultra 3 by 24-16 and took a seven-point lead going into halftime 41-34.

Ultra 3 reprises their performance and pour it on the offensive end of the third quarter and retook the lead going into the final ten minutes at 61-54. Both teams didn’t fall by the wayside as they pursue a bottleneck engagement and the Ultra 3 was able to maintain their lead up to the final seconds of the game and snatched a victory.

Oliver Castro led the way for Ultra 3 with 20 points. Vice Mayor Andrew Martin Torres followed up with 16 points while Siote Tan grabbed the player of the game honors with 11 points. Meanwhile, Lito Dumdum led Van Cruiser with 16 points followed by Kendrick Deloria with 13.

Surate HP clinched their finals spot after giving Eco Plush their six straight loss, 113-80. The latter started the tournament with an impressive 3-0 but never won again. Despite facing the number one team the Ecos were no intimidated as they took the lead after one, 23-18. Then it was all Surate as they outscored the Ecos in the remaining three quarters.

Atty. RA Sabio sizzles in the second, scoring 17 points in the quarter. Royden Pandoro and Sherwin Po combined with 25 points in the last two quarters to end the game in a convincing fashion. Atty. RA Sabio scored a game high 23 points to go along with player of the game honors. Sherwin Po and Royden Pandoro totaled 15 points apiece while Harry Chua recorded 11.* (Ghill Malimbag)
