Calatrava Encounter Update: Mobile Force Personnel in Armed Encounter vs. Suspected Rebels
The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) has confirmed the reported armed encounter in Sitio Kabalagnan, Barangay Lalong, Calatrava, Negros Occidental Sunday afternoon, June 14, 2026.
Based on the spot report submitted by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion – Negros Island Region (RMFB-NIR), personnel from the 1st Platoon, 2nd Maneuver Company were engaged in an armed encounter with suspected members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) while rendering security assistance to the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer of Calatrava.
Upon receipt of the report, a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of the 2nd Maneuver Company, RMFB-NIR, immediately proceeded to the area and successfully extracted the operating team.
Subsequent scouring operations conducted in the vicinity of the encounter site resulted in the recovery of broken pieces of a caliber 5.56 rifle, which are now subject to further examination and documentation as part of the ongoing investigation.
RMFB-NIR also coordinated closely with the Calatrava Municipal Police Station and Bravo Company, 79th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, based in Barangay Tigbon, Calatrava, to strengthen area security and sustain pursuit and monitoring operations. Additional maneuver companies were likewise placed on standby to provide reinforcement when necessary, while a Scout Platoon from Bravo Company, together with one team from the 2nd Maneuver Company, RMFB-NIR, was deployed in the area.
As of early Sunday night, all members of the 1st Platoon, 2nd Maneuver Company, RMFB-NIR, have been accounted for and are safe, with no reported injuries or casualties on the government side.
PRO NIR assures the public that appropriate operational and investigative measures are being undertaken in coordination with partner security forces. Further updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available.
