Bacolod City administrator, lawyer Mark Mayo urges those who ate “arroz caldo” (chicken rice soup) at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) on January 16, to proceed to the City Health Office (CHO) should any medical concern arises from eating.

Mayo said one of those who ate the food reported that a black object emitting a foul smell was found in his/her cup that was reported to the CHO at once.

He noted that the incident was an isolated case, adding that the soup was a donation from someone whom he did not name.

He said the CHO will remain open to accommodate patients on Saturday (January 17) and Sunday (January 18.)

In a late Friday afternoon press conference at the BCGC, he said some 300 cups were consumed by city government employees and clients of the Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS).

As of 5:00pm, no one from among those who consumed the food has shown up to report signs of any discomfort, he said.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment Sanitation Division, said it would take three days before the result of the analysis is released, falling on Monday, January 19.

She said the CHO will extend medical support to anyone who consumed the food and manifested illness.

According to Mayo, they will look into the matter to determine accountability.

He said that from now on, anyone who would donate food at the BCGC must first seek clearance from the City Administrator’s Office.* (Lorenzo Lambatin Jr./NDB)
