Valladolid Allots P9.7M for Cash for Work Projects

The Municipality of Valladolid, Negros Occidental has allotted P9.7 million for Cash for Work projects as its COVID-19 response projects for Kalahi-CIDSS funding.
The P9.7 million will be taken from the town’s P14.6 million COVID-19 response fund. The cash for work project covers four barangays.
Of the P14.6 million COVID-19 response fund allotted for Valladolid, P14.5 million is a Kalahi grant. The different barangay local government units also pledged a cash contribution of P6,000 and in-kind contribution of P43,134.
The local government unit has allocated a large portion of its fund for cash for work projects to address its employment challenges brought about by the pandemic.
Kalahi-CIDSS Area Coordinator Nenita Beaneza said the pandemic has affected the informal sectors specifically the drivers, laborers, and construction workers. There were also small businesses in the town that closed down.
Workers under the cash for work projects will declog canals, clean, and sanitize public places. They will also disinfect the schools then used as a quarantine facility, said Bearneza.
The cash for work projects will be implemented at Barangays Central Tabao, Mabini, Alijos, and Guintorilan.
Aside from the cash for work projects, the town also endorsed the purchase of tents as a temporary quarantine facility with amenities, medical supplies, and equipment at Barangay Poblacion.
The LGU likewise endorsed the installation of handwashing and foot bath facilities at Barangay Tabao.
The town’s six COVID-19 response identified projects were contained in an MDRRMC resolution. Its approval was based on the technical review conducted by the Municipal Inter-Agency Committee on COVID response projects presented by the communities.
The MDRRMC resolution was approved by Mayor Enrique Miravalles last August 3, 2020.
In this Kalahi-CIDSS implementation, the MDRRMC is given the mandate to evaluate which are COVID response related projects and conforms with the standards and protocols of the Department of Health.
Under the DROP implementation, the MDRRMC reviews and approves the proposal for Kalahi-CIDSS funding instead of the regular Municipal Inter-Barangay Forum for Participatory Resource Allocation.
The DROP implementation was prompted by Proclamation No. 922, declaring a State of Public Health Emergency and facilitate the mobilization of resources, to ease the processes including procurement of critical logistics and supplies.* (DSWD 6)
