239-MWp solar power and 65-MW battery energy storage project groundbreaking

Aboitiz Renewables, Inc. marked another milestone with the groundbreaking of its 239-megawatt-peak Luna Solar and 65-megawatt Battery Energy Storage Project in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

The project will provide additional power supply and reserve services that will help support grid reliability and the Visayas’ growing energy needs.

Jimmy Villaroman, President of Aboitiz Renewables; Alexander Coo, Chief Operating Officer of Aboitiz Renewables; 2nd District Congressman Alfredo “Thirdy” Marañon III, Cadiz City Mayor Salvador “Bading” Escalante and other AboitizPower and Aboitiz Renewables executives and government officials graced the ceremony.

Aboitiz Renewables has existing solar power plants in the province — the 173-megawatt-peak Calatrava Solar Power Plant located in Brgy. San Isidro, Calatrava which currently holds the title of the largest operating variable renewable energy facility in the Visayas, and the San Carlos Sun Power Inc. (SacaSun) in San Carlos City, a 59-MW facility and AboitizPower’s very first foray into solar energy.* (Arman P. Toga text & photos)
