PRO NIR Responds to Alleged Online Bomb Threat in San Carlos

The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR), through the San Carlos Component City Police Station (CCPS), immediately responded to an alleged bomb threat posted on social media on Saturday afternoon, July 11, 2026, by conducting security inspections in key establishments identified in the online post.
At around 4:30 PM, personnel of San Carlos CCPS, in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) San Carlos Canine Unit and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), conducted bomb detection paneling in the following locations:
• San Carlos City Auditorium, Barangay 4;
• VIAST Outsource Solutions along East Carmona Street, Barangay 4; and
• Empire One BPO along Eco Translink Highway, Barangay 2.
The security operation was initiated after authorities monitored an alleged bomb threat posted in the Facebook public group “6127 Marketplace San Carlos City” by an account identified as “Jim San.” The post allegedly threatened to plant bombs in schools and other establishments in San Carlos City, including Empire One BPO and an ongoing job fair.
The Philippine Coast Guard deployed one bomb detection canine to assist in the inspection of the identified locations. Following thorough security checks, authorities confirmed that no explosives or suspicious items were found in any of the areas inspected.
As part of the preventive security measures, police officers advised the management and employees of Empire One BPO and other concerned establishments to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious persons, unattended packages, or unusual activities to the nearest police station or through the 911 emergency hotline.
Meanwhile, the San Carlos CCPS will coordinate with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit, PRO NIR, to identify the individual behind the Facebook account that posted the alleged bomb threat. Authorities are also coordinating with concerned agencies as the investigation continues.
PRO NIR reminds the public that bomb threats are serious offenses under Philippine law. Individuals responsible for making false bomb threats, whether through social media or any other platform, may face criminal charges. The public is likewise encouraged to exercise responsibility online and to immediately report suspicious posts or threats to law enforcement authorities for prompt verification and appropriate action.
“The immediate response of our personnel and partner agencies reflects our commitment to ensuring public safety. While the inspection yielded negative results, we treat every reported threat with utmost seriousness. We assure the public that PRO NIR remains vigilant and is working closely with our cybercrime investigators to identify the person responsible for this alarming social media post. We also urge everyone to remain calm, stay alert, and refrain from sharing unverified information that may cause unnecessary fear or panic,” said Police Brigadier General Romano V. Cardiño, Regional Director, PRO NIR.* (PRO NIR)
