Pork, chicken supply sufficient in province

Pork and chicken supply in the province is sufficient amids efforts in maintaining its Asian Swine Fever-free status.

Thus said Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana even as the Negros Occidental Provincial Government is maintaining its strict border controls against ASF.

Dr. Lemana said Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson wants to make sure the province will remain free from ASF.

We are one of few provinces that remain ASF free and we are doing everything to maintain the status, Lemana said.

She emphasized that the provincial government is trying to protect the swine industry which is number one in terms of backyard swine raising nationwide.

Enough pork, chicken

Lemana is assuring Negrenses that the province is still sufficient in terms of pork and chicken supply.

Negros Occ., she said is producing 70,000 to 75,000 heads of chicken a day and supply is sufficient as consumption is about 60,000 to 70,000 heads per day.

The increase in the price of chicken meat, she added is due to the high cost of feeds.*
