2 COVID-9 Deaths Reported in Western Visayas Today

Two deaths, including a seven-year-old girl, were recorded in Western Visayas, bringing the total coronavirus disease (Covid-19) mortality to 26 out of the 1,839 cumulative positive cases as of today Friday.
Dr. Renilyn Reyes, the spokesperson for the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6), said in a virtual presser that the region also recorded 46 new confirmed positive cases to bring the total active cases to 896 while 65 recoveries raised the number of treated individuals to 917.

The two deaths are both from Iloilo province. They included a 70-year old female from Barotac Nuevo who died August 6, and a seven-year-old girl from Dumangas, who died August 3, the first Covid-19 mortality from the pediatric age group in the region, said Reyes.

The new positives are comprised of 12 cases each from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, and Iloilo City; five from Iloilo province; four from Capiz; and one from Antique.

Of the cases, 37 are asymptomatic, six have influenza-like illness (ILI), and three have severe acute respiratory infection (SARI).

Eleven of the new positives are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), nine are locally stranded individuals, and 26 are local cases.

“For the past five days, we already have 136 local cases,” she said.

Meantime, of the 896 active cases – 610 are LSIs, ROFs, and authorized persons outside of residence; and 286 local cases.

Almost half of the local active cases or 130 are in Bacolod City, 88 from Iloilo City, 36 from Negros Occidental, 29 from Iloilo province, two from Capiz and Antique has one.*
