528 Negrense athletes seeing action in regional meet in Aklan
The province of Negros Occidental sent 528 athletes to the Palarong Panrehiyon to be held in the Municipality of Makato in Aklan province which will open tomorrow, April 24.
Romeo Sison, sports coordinator of the Provincial Schools Division Office, said the delegation from the province departed from BREDCO Port in Bacolod City today, Sunday April 22 via roro vessel.
They will be housed at the Numancia Elementary School during the duration of the sports meet.
Sison said that joining the athletes are 175 coaches and DepEd staff and 163 chaperones and care takers for the different sports events.
Anthony Liobet, Division Superintendent, said the Provincial School Board chaired by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, approved P14.3 million for the delegation to the regional sports event.
Liobet added that they have sent an advance party to the billeting area for Negros.
Lacson said that he will be going to Aklan to attend the opening ceremonies of the event.
A total of 4,182 student-athletes from all over Region 6 are expected to participate in the WVRAA from April 26 to 30.* (EYA)
