Rebel surrenders in Silay

A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel surrendered to the police at Hacienda Punong in Barangay Kapitan Ramon, Silay City Tuesday afternoon.

Police requested to temporarily hide the identity of the surrenderee, although he is a resident of Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City.

According to the Silay City police, both the city policemen and the soldiers from the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion had been negotiating with the rebel who eventually surrendered.

The rebel yielded a 12-gauge shotgun, as well as a rifle grenade.

He is now undergoing debriefing and is expected to receive assistance under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.* (DGB)
