December 1, 2022

A congressman from Negros Oriental has offered P1 million as a reward for anybody who can give information about the suspects behind the murder of his driver, Juvanie Catubay.

Rep. Arnulfo Teves (3rd district), in a video post, condemns the killing of Catubay and called on authorities for a swift resolution.

“A high-powered rifle killed my staff instantly. How come a civilian can carry such a weapon?,” said Teves.
Catubay was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects around 2:30 p.m. Monday at Sitio Bunsod in Barangay Obat, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

The suspects and the motive for the killing remain unknown, “… that is why we continue to double our efforts,” Col. Reynaldo Lizardo, newly- installed provincial police director, said.

Initial police investigation showed that Catubay was driving his motorcycle on his way home from Barangay Caigangan, stopped by the store of Rose Bie Casido when the suspects arrived and shot him several times.

The Police Regional Office-7 (PRO-7) will be assisting the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) in its investigation.

Witnesses told investigators that the gunmen, both wearing full masks and helmets took the victim’s motorcycle with them.

Recovered at the crime scene were empty shells of caliber 5.56 and caliber .45. weapons.

Additional police personnel have been deployed to Sta. Catalina “for maximum police presence to deter the movement of lawless elements”, Lizardo said.* (EYA)
