October 20, 2022

The intensified campaign of the provincial government of Negros Occidental led to the interception of P165,025 worth of pork and pork products in five days.

In its report covering October 15 to 19, the Provincial African Swine Fever (ASF) Task Force bared that about 666.5 kilos of pork and pork products from neighboring Iloilo were intercepted.

The strict bio-security measure in the province comes after a suspected incident of ASF has been reported in Iloilo.

In a memorandum on Monday, October 15, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson imposed a ban in the entry of live pigs and pork products from the neighboring Panay and Guimaras Islands, to protect Negros Occidental’s P6-billion swine industry.

The report, signed by Dr. Placeda Lemana, OIC of the Provincial Veterinary Office, showed that the confiscated items were either shipped back to the point of origin or confiscated.

They were intercepted at the BREDCO Port in Bacolod City, New Bacolod-Silay Airport, San Carlos port and Escalante.* (EYA)
