Kabankalan sweeps Gov. Cup 17-U south bracket B 3×3 hoops
Despite its last-minute confirmation to join the Governor’s Cup Inter-LGU 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in Binalbagan on Oct. 1, Saturday, Kabankalan City proved it is a hard team to beat following its 5-0 victory against the other LGU teams in the 17-under South Bracket B category.
After the South Bracket A Eliminations in Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City last week, the Provincial Sports Office (PSO) continued its South Bracket B Eliminations in the municipality of Binalbagan on Saturday.
Participating LGUs included Hinigaran, Binalbagan, Himamaylan City, Kabankalan City, Ilog, and Sipalay City.
For the 14-under category, the top two teams were the cities of Himamaylan and Sipalay. Himamaylan ranked first while Sipalay landed in second place.
Kabankalan City, on the other hand, took the lead in the 17-under category and the municipality of Ilog ranked second. Kabankalan City earned 5 victories with no record of defeat. The location of the venue was also not a problem for the team as they brought the supportive parents of its players to cheer for them.
The top two teams from each category will be qualified for the South Semi-Finals. The Governor’s Cup Inter-LGU 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament was made possible through the cooperation of the PSO, under the leadership of Mr. Anthony Carlo Agustin, and the ABANSE NEGRENSE Sports Programs.
Meanwhile, present at the tournament were Binalbagan SB Hiry John Tajonera and Sports Coordinator Mr. Dexter Martin Jain.
This event was in line with Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson’s directive to promote grassroots sports development among LGUs in the province.*
