One thousand beneficiaries from Murcia recently received cash assistance of three thousand pesos (P3,000) each from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

The AICS is a social safety net or a stop-gap mechanism to support the recovery of individuals and families from unexpected crisis, such as illness or death of a family member, and other crisis situations like the Covid pandemic.

The fund was facilitated by the Office of Senator Bong Go and coordinated with the local government of Murcia headed by Mayor Gerry Rojas. The provincial staff of the DSWD, assisted by Murcia’s DSWD staff, distributed the payout at the Murcia gymnasium.

“We thank Sen. Bong Go for facilitating this assistance thru DSWD for the Murciahanon PWD’s, single parents, drivers and other indigent residents,” said Mayor Rojas.

“This is already the second tranche of cash assistance facilitated by Sen. Bong Go. We distributed the first tranche last December, and hopefully we can avail of a third tranche soon,” the mayor added.

Lawrence Chua, the representative from Sen. Go’s Visayas Office, reiterated that the funds did not come from the personal money of President Rodrigo Duterte nor from that of Sen. Bong Go.

“This is your money. This is taxpayers’ money which this government is giving back to you to help you in these challenging times,” Chua stressed.

“You should thank Mayor Gerry Rojas for his concern for you, and for his diligence in requesting and coordinating the release of this assistance from our national government, thru Sen. Bong Go. If your LGU is not diligent in collecting and submitting the requirements, and in following up this request, you might not be able to avail of this assistance,” Chua pointed out.

Chua disclosed that, aside from Murciahanons, thousands of Negrenses have already availed of the cash assistance. He explained that the Office of Sen. Bong Go has facilitated the release of the funds from this DSWD program to almost all LGUs in Negros and all other islands in the Visayas.* (Butch Bacaoco)
