Province hosts pilot face to face softball tourney

Amidst the pandemic season, the continuity plan of the Palarong Pambansa to reboot sports competition, the Province of Negros Occidental accepted the challenge to host the DEP-ED-ASAPHIL- PROVINCE OF NEGROS OCCIDENTAL Under-18 Softball Tournament at the Bacolod City National High School grounds.

Four teams vie for the competition honors – Bacolod City National High School, Ramon Torres National High School, Domingo Lacson National High School and Brgy.E. Lopez National High School (Silay).

Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson welcomed the officials of the Department of Education and the ASAPHIL and thanked them for selecting the province to host this pilot sports event, the first ever to be held in the new normal climate of the country.

Provincial Executive Assistant and Head of Provincial Sports Office Anthony Carlo Agustin announced that the champion team will bring home a cash gift of P15,000 while the other three teams will grab P10,000, P7,000 and P5,000 respectively.

Individual prizes of P1,000 each will be given to the Best Hitter, Best Slugger, Most RBI, Most No. Of Home Runs and Stolen Bases, Best Pitcher and the Most Valuable Player.

This tournament is in preparation for the Palarong Pambansa 2023 aiming as well to discover, hone and develop future champions which will represent the Province in national and international competitions.

Governor Lacson stressed his utmost appreciation to the DepEd and the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines for putting the province in the sports map of the country as it moves to greater heights during the pandemic climate.* (Provincial Sports Office)
