Bacolod gov’t to deploy vehicles to offer free rides amid ‘People’s Holiday’ transport strike tomorrow and Tuesday

The City Government of Bacolod will deploy vehicles to provide free rides to all Bacolodnons as passenger jeepney drivers hold a two-day transport strike starting tomorrow until Tuesday, March 22.

City Administrator Atty. Edward Joseph Cuansing said the city has allocated nine service vehicles that will ply seven point-to-point routes.

The pickup points will be at the following:Barangay Bata (Bangga Sawmill);
Barangay Alangilan (Plaza);
Barangay Sum-ag (near the public cemetery);
Barangay Mansilingan (Mormons Church);
Barangay Handumanan (Police Station 10) via Alijis;
Barangay Estefania (Savemore); and, Barangay Banago.

All vehicles will take-off at 4 a.m. and the drop-off point will be at the Bacolod City Public Plaza, Cuansing was quoted in a Bacolod City PIO advisory.

Drivers of public utility vehicles, backed by consumers’ and other groups decided to go on strike they dubbed “People’s Holiday and Protest” to demand from government the implementation of certain measures amid incessant increases in fuel prices.*
