Covid-19 cases in Bacolod doubles in 2 days

January 6, 2022

New Covid cases in Bacolod more than doubled in just two days, from 16 to 35 last night.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia again reminded Bacolodnons this morning that “the pandemic is not over, and that they should observe minimum health protocols to control transmission of the deadly virus”.

In a City Public Information Office dispatch, “Leonardia issued the warning after a brief made by Executive Director Em Legaspi-Ang of the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force, that contact-tracing cluster head Dr. Rosalie Deocampo told EOC-TF members in their daily huddle that cases doubled from 16 to 34 late Wednesday night.”

Dr. Deocampo said that those infected have a travel history or had attended holiday gatherings, the PIO dispatch quoting Ang said.
On Monday, Leonardia and the EOC-TF members discussed in an emergency Zoom meeting the uptick of COVID cases in the National Capital Region and adjacent provinces after the holiday celebrations. Health authorities also suspect that the increase in daily spread may already be due to the Omicron variant, it added.

“We should remain compliant with the minimum health protocols. Getting vaccinated certainly protects us but we have to be reminded to wear face mask, avoid crowded places and observe social distancing at all times,” the mayor said.*
