Gov. Lacson signs MOA for maritime scholarship program

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation (JBLCF), Fukujin Kisen, Co., Ltd., and scholarship grantees of the Provincial Government’s Maritime Scholarship Program, yesterday, at the Capitol Social Hall.

The 15 qualified students were granted scholarship on a “Study Now, Pay Later” scheme at JBLCF in Bacolod City who must complete their academic requirements for Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation.

The maritime scholarship is a tripartite endeavor of the Provincial Government, maritime schools, and manning company, aimed at providing educational benefits to the poor but deserving Negrense students who dream of becoming a seafarer.

JBLCF Bacolod was represented by its administrator, Engr. Roberto Neal Sobrejuanite while the manning company, Fukujin Kisen, Co., Ltd. was represented by Capt. Achilles Cuadra, Jr., Ship Management Manager.

As stated in the MOA, the province will pay the tuition and school fees, while the manning company commit to grant employment for the scholars after a year of shipboard training.

Gov. Lacson thanked the JBLCF for their cooperation and support to the scholarship program of the province.

He also advised the scholars to be diligent and responsible during their training, and couple their skills and hardwork with work ethics.

“As you venture into this new chapter of advancement in your education and professional life, always remember that you are also paving the way on behalf of the other young Negrenses who are going to follow your footsteps,” he added.

Board Member Agustin Ernesto Bascon, chairman of the SP Committee on Education, was also present at the activity. He made emphasis on the importance of education to the Negrense youth.

The governor also lauded the Negros Occ. Scholarship Program (NOSP) Division led by Karen Dinsay, for the dynamic and committed dedication to the development of Negrense students.* (Capitol PIO)
