76 Negros Occ. brgys. landslide, flood-prone: MGB
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has classified 76 barangays in Negros Occidental as “very landslide” and “very flood prone” areas when storms or typhoons occur.
Dr. Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division said there are 20 barangays that have landslide areas.
The town of Manapla has the most number with 4, Kabankalan City – 3, Victorias City – 3, and Silay- 3.
EB Magalona, Ilog and Don Salvador Benedicto each has two while Cadiz City has one.
The local government units classified with flood prone barangays is topped by Kabankalan City -18, Manapla – 9, Victorias City – 6, and Ilog – 4;
Cadiz City, EB Magalona, Himamaylan City and Silay City each has two barangays and Calatrava has one barangay.
These areas has a 50 mm threshold level for flooding and landslide, the MGB said.
Meanwhile, a total of 3,766 of the 4,051 barangays in Western Visayas, are susceptible to flooding and landslide caused by weather disturbances, the MGB reported.
The province of Iloilo has the highest number of affected barangays which totals to 1828; followed by Negros Occidental, 613; Antique, 515; Capiz, 445; Aklan, 273; and Guimaras with 92 affected barangays.
