COMELEC says satellite registration to go on; Deactivated voters can reactivate through email

September 24, 2021

Satellite voter registrations such as in malls will continue until September 30, Atty. Wilfred Jay Balisado, Commission on Election 6 regional director, confirmed.

Comelec commissioner Atty. Rowena Guanzon at the same time is appealing to deactivated voters to renew their registration through email.

In clarifying that voter registration outside Comelec offices will go on, Atty. Balisado said: “As a matter of fact, based on the latest issuances of our national office, it is actually encouraging satellite registration in malls.”

Last week, the Bacolod Emergency Operations Center (EOC) asked the commission to temporarily suspend the satellite registrations.

Balisado had advised Atty. Ma. Fatima Aspan, provincial election supervisor, that voter registrations are ongoing even in areas under the modified enhanced community quarantine such as the National Capital Region and Iloilo.

Comelec-Bacolod is conducting satellite registrations at the Ayala Central Mall and at SM City-Bacolod.

Balisado called on the public “who wants to participate in the 2022 election to register now.”

“Give way to new voters,” he urged those who just wants to transfer from one barangay within the same local government units.

VOTER REACTIVATION

Meanwhile, Comelec Commissioner Guanzon made the call to some 6 million voters who were deactivated due to failure to vote in two consecutive polls to reactivate via electronic mail.

“To reactivate, there is no need to personally appear at the Comelec office. You can do it through sending an email to your respective Election Officers,” she said in a Laging Handa briefing.

Guanzon said the email addresses of all Offices of the Election Officer can be found on the Comelec’s website.

In July, the poll body reported that some 600,000 deactivated voters have registered again to be able to participate in next year’s elections.*
