September 4, 2021

The local government of San Carlos City Emergency Operations Center led by Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo appealed to residents to get the COVID-19 shots as positive cases surges in the city.

In a press conference today, Sept. 2, Mayor Gustilo said confirmed positive cases have reached 63, so he urged unvaccinated residents to grab the available free vaccine provided by the government.

Gustilo also appealed to residents to notify the local government of suspected COVID-19 positive/s for the welfare of other people as well as seek proper medical care if they show symptoms of the virus and not just rely on over-the-counter drugs.

He also reiterated the importance of the minimum health protocol during the rise of another variant of the virus and cooperation within the community to prevent lockdown and to continue the economic activities in the city.

On the other hand, Dr. Jessa Tiapon, EOC Health Cluster Head, said that only 11, 702 individuals were vaccinated in which the priority group A2 or senior citizens has the lowest number of vaccinees.

She said that they have adjusted the system that would better the vaccination program of the city by conducting offsite vaccinations and “rekorida” in the barangays since other residents have limited access to information especially those from the mountain barangays.

Dr. Wilmer L. Yap, EOC Incident Commander stressed that vaccine may not give 100% protection from the virus but an infected person can only experience mild symptoms if already vaccinated.

Also present during the presscon were Joe Recalex Alingasa Jr., EOC Manager and Dr. Ma Genevieve Montaño, EOC Medical Cluster Head.*
