Gov. Bong, Rep. Kiko join launch of Murcia legislative building
Negros Occ. Gov. Eugenio “Bong” Lacson, 3rd District Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Benitez and 3rd District Board Member Manman Ko joined Mayor Victor Gerardo M. Rojas, Vice-Mayor Johnny Reosura, Sangguniang Bayan Members, Punong Barangays and other local officials and employees in the blessing and inauguration of the Murcia Legislative Building.
Fr. Ricky Atillaga of Murcia’s Immaculate Conception Parish led the August 11, 2021 blessing of the two-storey building, which is annexed to the left of the municipal hall, and has a spacious session hall and individual offices for the town’s ten Sangguniang Bayan members.
“Congratulations to Mayor Gerry Rojas and other Murcia officials for implementing projects that benefit the Murciahanons. These projects would not have been possible without the support of your Sangguniang Bayan. With this new building, I hope you will be encouraged and be more motivated to do more, and to continue to serve and support the vision of your mayor,” said Gov. Lacson in his message.
Mayor Rojas thanked the governor for all the support he has extended to Murcia.
“Thank you very much, Gov. Lacson, for all the support that you have extended to Murcia, especially for our Covid vaccination program, the P3 million for the plaza renovation, artificial insemination clinic, 50 sacks rice for our indigents,” Rojas said.
“We work harmoniously with the Vice-Mayor and SB members, our punong barangays, department heads and employees. Whenever there are concerns and issues, I call for a meeting with them and we work for a consensus. I hope that this new legislative building will motivate our SB members to work harder to deliver more productive programs to all Murciahanons,” Mayor Rojas added.
The mayor narrated that, when he assumed office in July 2019, he saw the needs which the town officials should prioritize, such as the legislative building, plaza renovation, senior citizens’ building with tourism office, museum and library, MDRRMO Command Center monitoring the CCTV cameras all over the town proper, the CPSU extension classes, sanitary landfill and public cemetery.
Murcia is also renovating the wet market section of the public market, including the drainage and installation of tiles for display tables and washing sinks.
Moreover, Mayor Rojas disclosed that he is presently working on the preservation of the PLDT satellite tower and building at Mount Canlandog, with the aim of developing the area into an eco-tourism attraction.
Vice-Mayor Johnny Reosura also thanked the governor for his support for Murcia, and he further thanked Mayor Rojas for his support to the legislative branch.
“Thank you very much, Gov. Lacson, for your full support to Murcia. As far as I can remember, the governor has always granted everything that our municipality requested from him. Thank you very much also to Mayor Gerry Rojas. Every time that the legislative branch has a request for the mayor, he always sits down with us and grants 98% of what we request,” Vice-Mayor Reosura said.
VM Reosura attested that Mayor Rojas always prioritizes the needs of other local offices over the needs of his own office.
He cited as examples the procurement of brand-new service vehicles for different local offices, and the construction of the new legislative building and other buildings in the town, when in fact the mayor’s office has not procured a service vehicle for its own use, nor has it renovated the existing Mayor’s Office.
“Such is the kind heart of our mayor, which demonstrates the love and concern of a father to our town,” VM Reosura pointed out.* (Butch Bacaocao)
