“How far can your P20.00 take you?” goes a popular TV ad. At Alexandra’s Café, your P20.00 will get you an invigorating cup of Minoyan native coffee and ibos. The cool, soothing breeze and the relaxing view of the lush mountains of central Negros come free of charge.* (Butch Bacaoco photo)

One thing the pandemic has taught us is to appreciate the solitude, embrace the silence and commune with nature. Some go into home gardening, while others go off the beaten track and delight in travelling to places they’ve always wanted to visit.

Within striking distance of Bacolod City, the natural wonders of Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia beckon.

Whether you’re biking with fellow health buffs or leisurely riding your motorbike to feel the caress of the winds as you gaze at the mountains of central Negros, a pit stop is always welcome.

In your next sortie to the mountains, make sure to drop by Alexandra’s Café, a roadside pit stop about 100 meters to the east of Minoyan Barangay Hall, where your P20.00 will get you an invigorating cup of Minoyan native coffee and ibos. The cool, soothing breeze and the relaxing view of the lush mountains come free of charge.

Alexandra’s Café also offers an affordable choice of refreshments and meals for bikers and motorists who want to experience the serene ambiance of Minoyan or explore the upland resorts in the barangay.

“Our pancit molo has become a favorite of our clients here,” said Jojo Tolosa, who owns and operates the café with his wife Grace, ably assisted by their unica hija Alexandra, after whom the business was named.

Aside from its famed pancit molo, which attracts not only weekend trippers but Minoyan locals as well, the place also offers hot and cold beverages, “silog” meals, combo snacks and other comfort food.

“On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, we serve Soup No. 5 and beef linaga. Clients can also pre-order native chicken adobo and tinola,” added Jojo, apparently the chief cook of their business which opened only last May.

From Monday to Thursday, Jojo reports to Don Salvador Benedicto, where he works as head teacher of Kinabong Elementary School in Brgy. Igmaya-an. Thus, he can fully discharge his duties as chief cook only on weekends.
