Statement of Bacolod Councilor Wilson “Jun” Gamboa Jr. on Rising Covid-19 Cases in the City
Common question being asked, “Ano ang masuggest nyo nga solution sa cge pagdamo sang Covid cases sa Bacolod kon indi MECQ?”
I manifested this argument last August 25, 2020 in our SP Regular Session:
Of the 8 measures granted to as “the Mayor’s Emergency Authority”, 7 out of 8 of these measures are all about restrictions, limitations, curtailment and stoppage of movement which is not anymore a “direct solution to stop transmission” according to WHO.
The Philippines has the longest “quarantine” in the whole world, now in its 6 months and yet transmission and Covid 19 cases are rising. We might be looking or focusing on ‘strategies’ which are not the solutions but just mere ‘palliatives’ to the problem.
What we need today according to WHO is a “STRONG PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM”.
Summon all the experts in the City to create a targeted strategy to 1.) DETECT 2.) TEST 3.) ISOLATE 4.) TREAT and 5.) TRACE.
Targeting first the most vulnerable group especially our elderly or the senior citizens and children but not the stoppage or curtailment of human movement and in fact, according to WHO “TO ALLOW MOVEMENT WITH THE OBSERVANCE OF PROPER HEALTH PROTOCOL”.
Curtailing and stoppage of movement is more expensive than the transmission itself – economic wise. It will destroy the economy and exacerbating further the misery of our people.
Meaning, others who need to work can do so freely and safely by ” protecting our healthy, able and productive citizens to work. Our citizens are our important resources. Thxs.*
