No Casualties During Sunday’s Calatrava Encounter
The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) strongly refutes the false and misleading information circulating on social media regarding the alleged casualties involving personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion – Negros Island Region (RMFB-NIR) following the armed encounter in Sitio Kabalagnan, Barangay Lalong, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on June 14, 2026.
Based on the official spot report submitted by RMFB-NIR, personnel from the 1st Platoon, 2nd Maneuver Company allegedly encountered suspected members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) while rendering security assistance.
As of this reporting, all members of the 1st Platoon, 2nd Maneuver Company, RMFB-NIR have been accounted for and are SAFE, with no reported injuries or casualties on the government side.
PRO NIR expresses serious concern over the irresponsible dissemination of false and unverified information through social media platforms. Such acts create unnecessary alarm among the public, cause undue emotional distress to the families of uniformed personnel, and may adversely affect legitimate law enforcement and security operations.
In this regard, an investigation shall be conducted in coordination with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit – Negros Island Region (RACU-NIR) to identify the individual or individuals responsible for authoring, administering, and operating the social media page that published the false report. The incident shall likewise be reported to Facebook for appropriate action pursuant to its policies and community standards against the spread of false information.
PRO NIR is likewise exploring all available legal remedies against individuals responsible for the malicious dissemination of false information online, subject to the outcome of the investigation and the determination of probable cause by the proper prosecutorial authorities.
The public is strongly encouraged to exercise discernment and responsibility in the use of social media by verifying information through official sources before sharing or reposting online content.
