October 30, 2025

The Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (Negros Office) will hold today Oct. 30 its 39th anniversary event and a para-legal training for its partner mass leaders from the small fishers and farmers groups.

The para-legal training on Renewable Energy and Fisheries is being undertaken by PRRM in collaboration with the Legal Resource Center (LRC), one of the oldest and most active legal assistance groups/ institutions defending the rights and serving the cause of the basic and marginalized sectors as well as that of protecting the environment in the country.

Participants for the training come from the three provinces which comprised the Panay-Negros- Guimaras Crab Fishers Alliance (PANEG-CA), the largest small fishers network in the Visayas and small farmers groups allied with PRRM.

PANEG-CA chair and small fisher leader Gerry Bedoya said the training will be a significant gain in strengthening the advocacy of small fishers for good fisheries governance and in their efforts to reduce Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing in Negros and Panay islands.

PRRM-Negros Area Manager Edwin Balajadia said both the training and the 39th anniversary event demonstrate the continuing commitment of PRRM and its partner sectoral formations in the struggle for social and environmental justice, good governance and real sustainable development. He added that they are thankful for LRC for its support to the holding of the para- legal training for the benefit of the grassroots partners.*
