Preparations Continue for Upcoming Bacolod Flood Control Summit
Preparations continue for the holding of the Bacolod Flood Control Summit in the city.
Bacolod City Councilor Homer Bais, SP Committee on Environment chairman, confirmed to NDB that the summit will be held after the MassKara festivities.
Bais said the date of the summit will be announced soon. He is urging the public to take part and to contribute ideas in addressing the problem.
Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez of the Lone District of Bacolod, in spearheading the initiatives to organize the flood control summit, earlier said it will tackle solutions to the recurring floods in the city.
“To address the flooding in our city, we are spearheading the convening of a flood control summit to discuss and to resolve to adopt real, doable solutions,” Benitez said.
It will bring together residents and those from surrounding areas, as well as national and local government officials, contractors, and experts, Cong. Albee Benitez said.
“To solve this recurring problem, we must recognize that accountability alone will not keep our communities safe. This summit is not about pointing fingers. It is about rolling up our sleeves and putting our heads together to find concrete ways to protect lives, homes, and livelihoods,” Benitez said.
On the part of the Bacolod City government, Mayor Greg Gasataya has been initiating the clearing and dredging of the major waterways as part of the city’s flood mitigation efforts targeting vulnerable areas.
“As we prepare for the Bacolod Flood Control Summit, we invite you to share your experiences, suggestions, and recommendations through this form so it can be encoded and included in the upcoming flood summit. Your input will help guide real and doable actions for a safer, flood-resilient Bacolod,” Rep. Benitez said, referring to the QR link below.*
