79IB Honors National Heroes’ Day: Living the legacy of sacrifice and service

August 25, 2025

SAGAY CITY, Negros Occidental — As the nation commemorates National Heroes’ Day, the 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion joins every Filipino in paying the highest tribute to the gallant men and women—past and present—who devoted their lives to the cause of freedom, peace, and nation-building.

Lieutenant Colonel Eric B. Alfonso INF (GSC) PA, Acting Commanding Officer of the 79IB, underscored that heroism is not confined to the pages of history but lives on today through the daily sacrifices of soldiers, peace advocates, and ordinary citizens who selflessly serve their communities.

“Heroism is not only about fighting in battlefields. It is also about choosing service over self, compassion over comfort, and unity over division. Every act of sacrifice for the good of others—no matter how small—is a reflection of the same spirit that guided our national heroes,” LTC Alfonso said.

The “Masaligan Troopers” proudly follow in the footsteps of our heroes by dedicating their lives to the mission of peace, purpose, compassion, and development in Northern Negros. Their service is a living example that the heroism of yesterday continues to shape the progress of today.

The Battalion also calls upon the people of Negros to draw inspiration from the valor of our forefathers and to remain steadfast in unity, vigilance, and cooperation—especially in confronting the threats that seek to disturb peace and hinder progress.

In honoring our national heroes, the 79IB reaffirms its mandate: to be protectors of peace, partners in development, and guardians of the legacy of courage and sacrifice for generations to come.
