Diocese of Bacolod Suspends Masses For a Week

August 21, 2020

In solidarity with frontliners, Bishop Patricio A. Buzon, SDB, D.D. issued Circular Letter 2020-011 suspending the celebration of Masses in churches throughout the Diocese from August 24 to August 30, 2020.

According to Bishop Buzon, this is the Diocese of Bacolod’s response to the call for help made by the medical societies in Bacolod and Negros with regard to limiting mass mobility and gatherings as concrete measures of addressing the continuing spike in the number of COVID 19 cases.

“With our hospitals critically reaching their limits, medical practitioners and service staff overwhelmed and over-worked and some hospital personnel getting infected, the Diocese sees it necessary to give the much needed support for frontliners and the hospitals through a gesture of sympathy of a week-long suspension of Masses”, the prelate added.

Bishop Buzon hopes that the initiative will help in limiting the movement of people, alleviate the morale of frontliners and, more importantly, heighten the awareness of people as to the seriousness of the COVID 19 situation.* (Rev. Fr. Roy Christian D. Gesulgon, JD, MA, Director, Diocesan Commission on Social Communications)
