Prov’l gov’t resumes Community Kitchen Program for Kanlaon evacuees
The provincial government of Negros Occidental resumed its community kitchen for evacuees of the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Tuesday.
Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, provincial administrator, said on that a total of 2,000 evacuees housed in evacuation centers in La Castellana, Bago City, and La Carlota City.
Diaz said the Capitol allotted P5.8 million for 30 days.
He added the feeding program of the provincial government will be funded by the Disaster Risk Reduction Fund of the Capitol.
“The remaining balance of the P50 million previously provided by MalacaƱang is no longer enough to fund the feeding of program for the evacuees,” he pointed out.
Donato Sermeno III, regional director of the Office of Civil Defense- Negros Island Region (OCD-NIR), said that as of Monday, there were 4,156 evacuees in the NIR.
In La Castellana has 1,463 evacuees, La Carlota City has 225, and Bago City has 81. Canlaon City in Negros Oriental accounts for 2,379 evacuees.
The OCD-NIR is on Red Alert status still remains in areas surrounding the volcano even as it remains restless because of possible lahar flow, Sermeno said.*
