From Small Town to International Sensation
Buglas Futbol – Amon – Bugal – Gugma nga Di Mabakal!
The Filipino Australians, decades-old citizens, excitedly chanted the Buglas Futbol (Bugal, Baskug, Banzai) lyrics, as they cheered for the Girls Under 15 of Negros Island Region who ranked 2nd in the elimination round, with 3-0-0 standing, at the 33rd Kanga Cup, International Youth Soccer tournament which kicked off July 14 and the grand finals on July 18, 2025 at Southwells Park, Canberra.
“I’ll bring in my electric kettle to the hotel… so we can prepare cofee at the field… it’s freezing cold there 3 degrees Celcius even at noon,” said Mrs. Volet Carolan, lead volunteer and team cheufer from the Filipino Canberra Community (FCC) and The Filipino Community Newspaper in Canberra, Australia, with more than three decades.
“My husband told me to move to another state like Sydney or Brisbane… life in Canberra is more laid back and weather is great,” said Mrs. Kotch Velasques, FCC Coordinator, Cheufer and other volunteer task, living the Bayanihan spirit the over years in Australia.
