Kanlaon Border Controls Tightened Anew
The border controls into the 6-kilometer Extended Danger Zone of Kanlaon Volcano has been tightened again after the window period was suspended.
Raul Fernandez, Regional Task Force Kanlaon chairman, said on Wednesday that the Regional Incident Management Team is focusing on the border controls.
He identified the entry points as Brgys. Biak-na-Bato, Cabagna-an and Mansalanao in La Castellana; Brgys. Ara-al and Yubo in La Carlota City, and in Brgy. Ilijan in Bago City.
He added that there are about four border controls in Canlaon City.
The RIMT reminded security personnel in the border controls to ban all human activities inside the danger zone amid the heightened activity of Kanlaon Volcano.
Kanlaon has been showing increased volcanic quakes and lower sulfur dioxide emissions.
The OCD has allowed a “window time” for entering and exiting the permanent extended danger zone (PEDZ) of Mount Kanlaon from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow evacuees to visit their homes, farms and animals.
Fernandez admitted that despite the border controls, evacuees still managed to enter as the area is so wide.
Beginning Wednesday, the Regional Task Force Kanlaon will suspend indefinitely entry into the volcano’s extended 6-km. danger zone due to events in recent days that experts said may be “precursors” to another eruption.* (NDB)
