Mayor Peña

The elections in Pulupandan have always been peaceful.

Thus said Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña when interviewed by reporters at the sidelines of the Interfaith Prayer and Peace Covenant Signing Thursday morning.

“Even during the time of my father (Magsie), the elections in the town were peaceful,” he also said.

Peña, running for reelection in the May 2025 polls, joined other local candidates during the peace covenant signing held at the Sangguniang Bayan Office in the town, spearheaded by the Commission on Elections, the Philippine National Police, and the church sector.

Local Comelec officer Renato Patriarca administered the peace covenant pledge and signing, “a way of getting the candidates’ commitment for a safe, fair and honest election.” It was preceeded by inter-faith prayers of Pastors Joan Sajo and Regie Tibulan.

The ceremony was originally scheduled Monday but Mayor Peña said he begged to move it to Thursday as he was in Manila to receive funds for various projects in the town.

He said he is asking for an apology for having moved the schedule of the activity.

He told newsmen that Pulupandan, being the second poorest municipality in Negros Occidental, he has to boost local funds from other sources to put up more projects and programs that benefit the residents.* (Arman P. Toga/NDB photos)
