To further strengthen and enhance the delivery of health services in Murcia, Mayor Gerry M. Rojas, supported by Vice-Mayor Johnny Reosura and the Sangguniang Bayan Members, turned over five brand new ambulances / patient transport vehicles to five more barangays last week.

“Since I assumed office as your mayor in 2019, one of my primary concerns has always been the health and welfare of Murciahanons. With the support of Vice-Mayor Johnny Reosura and all the Sanguniang Bayan Members, our administration has delivered numerous programs to boost health services to Murciahanons, including this distribution of ambulances to the barangays,” said Mayor Gerry Rojas.

“These barangay-based vehicles will ensure that our patients from the barangays can be transported more quickly and receive medical care at the Murcia Health Center. After receiving medical care at our Health Center, our patients can be brought back home by the same vehicle if they are already well, or sent aboard another ambulance to a hospital in Bacolod for more comprehensive medical care,” he explained.

Last week, Mayor Rojas, Vice-Mayor Reosura and the SB Members turned over one patient transport vehicle to each of the Punong Barangay and other barangay officials of Barangays Blumentritt, Iglau-an, Minoyan, Pandanon and San Miguel.

In April last year, he distributed ambulances to Brgy. Lopez Jaeňa and Brgy. Cansilayan, followed by the distribution of ambulances to Brgy. Buenavista, Brgy. Sta. Rosa and Brgy. Alegria in July last year.

Prior to the turnover of the vehicles, the mayor talked to the drivers assigned to each vehicle and instructed them to properly maintain and operate the ambulances so that the vehicles can benefit Murciahanons for a longer time. The local government will shoulder the salaries of the ambulance drivers, as well as the cost of fuel and maintenance of the vehicles.

“We aim to provide an ambulance or patient transport vehicle to each of the 23 barangays in Murcia, with priority for the far-flung barangays. We have now distributed ten (10) vehicles, and we will procure more units, as the funds allow. For now, we will endeavor to provide one ambulance for a cluster of neighboring barangays, until we can provide an ambulance to each barangay,” the mayor emphasized.

Since the start of his term in 2019, Mayor Rojas has procured more than ten (10) brand-new ambulances to serve Murciahanons. These purchases were sourced from local funds and from various government offices. He assured Murciahanons that he and his administration will continue to further strengthen the health services in the town.* (PR)
