8 teams join Banker’s basketball tourney ’25
“After six years, the bankers are back on the hard court.”
Eight teams participated the Bankers’ Club of Negros Occidental, Inc. (BCNOI)-organized basketball tournament held at JRP Gymnasium Villa Esperanza in Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City on January 18, 2025. This according to former club president and currently the sports director – Mr. Dwight Somcio.
These banking institutions were Bank of Commerce/EastWest Bank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Marayo Bank Inc., Banco De Oro, Security Bank Corporation, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Philippine National Bank, and Metropolitan Bank.
Guest speaker Bacolod City Vice Mayor Hon. El Cid Familiaran applauded members of BCNOI for organizing the sporting event. “Basketball has always been more than just a sport for us Filipinos. It is an avenue to bring people together, instill teamwork, and promote a healthy lifestyle amidst our hectic schedule,” VM Familiaran further said. “I commend the organizers, teams, and players for making this tournament possible. And for advocating an environment that encourages fair competition and friendship.”
Mr. Scott Salvacion of Metrobank led the oath of sportsmanship and Ms. Janine Cabrillos of PNB was awarded best muse.
Also present during the opening ceremony were BCNOI President Ms. Grace Aves, and former club presidents Mr. Romo Constantino Martir & Ms. Roselyn Lim Chu.
Game results were: (G1) BPI vs BOC/EWB, 64-50, Player of the Game was Scott Heria of BPI with 17 points & 4 rebounds; (G2) Marayo vs BDO, 81-50, POTG – Joedel Imutan of Marayo with 19 pts & 11 reb; (G3) BSP vs SBC, 76-43, POTG – Karl Carton of BSP – 14 pts & 4 reb; (G4) Metrobank vs PNB, 61-56, POTG – S. Salvacion – 22 pts & 11 reb; (G5) Metrobank vs BSP, 45-39, POTG – Audric Alano of Metrobank – 16 pts & 5 reb; (G6) SBC vs PNB, 48-40, POTG – Mishael Abella of SBC – 14 pts & 9 reb; (G7) BOC/EWB vs BDO, 56-35, POTG – Kevyn Parra of BOC/EWB – 13 pts & 5 reb; and (G8) BPI vs Marayo, 70-60, POTG – S.
