124 fireworks-related injuries in NIR
The Negros Island Region (NIR) recorded a total of 124 fireworks-related injuries as of January 5, 2025, the Department of Health reported.
Negros Occidental continues to lead the region with a total of 86 cases, Bacolod City with 20, Negros Oriental – 16, and Siquijor had 2 cases.
A total of 82 of the cases were blast and burn injuries without amputation, 34 – eye injuries, 5 cases were blast and burn injuries with amputation, two cases of burns without amputation and eye injury, the data said.
Majority of the injuries were caused by triangle with 25, and 19 from unknown fireworks, 17 from kwitis, 13 from 5-star, eight each from boga, whistle bomb and candle bomb, 6 injuries were caused by bilong-bilong, 5 injuries from kamara, 3 from sparklers, 2 each from luces and combination of fireworks powder, one each from flying tiger, super lolo, katay, pla-pla, marawi.* (EYA)
