Capitol readies Panaad stadium for Kanlaon evacuees
The provincial government of Negros Occidental is preparing the facilities of the Capitol-owned Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod to accommodate about 3,000 evacuees due to the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.
Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II, provincial administrator, said on Wednesday that the Camp Management Team has been set up at the Organic Village and Covered Court area of the facility.
He said that Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has ordered to prepare Panaad for about 5,000 possible evacuees for three weeks.
Diaz said they will be accommodated up to the second floor of the grandstand of the sports complex.
We will drive away the bats at the grandstand to provide additional spaces for accomodations, he said.
He added that the provincial government will request the different local government units to open their pavilions at the park to accommodate more evacuees.
We are also looking at putting up tents at the stadium field for the evacuees, Diaz said.
The facility is 25 hectares with the stadium that can accommodate 15,000 individuals.* (EYA)
