BOC Port of Manila turns over P5-M worth of smuggled firecrackers to PNP-FEO
The BOC-Port of Manila turned over illegal shipment of firecrackers to the Philippine National Police – Firearms and Explosives Office on July 25, 2020 at the Blasting Site in Sta. Juana, Capaz, Tarlac.
The 40-foot container shipment contained an estimated value of P5 million pesos worth of assorted firecrackers. It was consigned to Wealth Lotus Empire Corporation and declared as plastic bins, BOC said in a press statement yesterday.
The importation violated Republic Act 7183 or An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices and Section 1113 (f) of Republic Act 10863 or CMTA (Property subject to Seizure and Forfeiture).
Through the approval of POM District Collector Michael Angelo Vargas and aligned with the Commisioner’s thrust to disposed overstaying cargoes, the container was turned over to PNP-FEO for proper disposition in accordance with Section 1146 of CMTA (Disposition of Regulated Goods).
The operation was witnessed by representatives from the POM Auction and Cargo Disposal Division, ESS, CIIS, and PNP-FEO.”*
