The provincial government of Negros Occidental distributed 12,000 doses of hog cholera vaccines worth P480,000 at turnover rites at Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog covered court today, August 17.

The turnover rites were led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson with Board Member Jeffrey Tubola and other officials.

The procurement of the hog cholera vaccines was funded by the Animal Health Support Project for Local Government Units.

The provincial government bought 74,000 doses of hog cholera vaccines worth P2.9 million.

Sipalay City and Hinobaan were the first recipients after receiving 74,000 doses worth P2.96 million.

Dr. Placeda Lemana, OIC of the Provincial Veterinary Office said it will be the raisers themselves who will inject the vaccines to their pigs.

“We don’t want our para-vets who will be carriers of the virus that will cause the deaths of their pigs,” she pointed out.

A total of 800 free range chickens were also turned over to swine raisers whose pigs died due to hog cholera, as an alternative source of livelihood.

As to the schedule of distribution of the P2,000 cash assistance to affected hog raisers, Lacson said they are finalizing the whole process.

It will be San Enrique and another LGU which will be the first beneficiaries, he said.* (Eugene Y. Adiong)
