Cong. Dino Yulo backs sugar suggested retail price

June 13, 2023

Negros Occidental Rep. Emilio “Dino” Yulo (5th District) is supporting the call of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) to impose an P85 suggested retail price (SRP) per kilo of sugar.

“It should have been done a long time ago,” Yulo told PNV Media.

Yulo, a former member of the SRA Board representing the sugar producers, also said that “the blame is on the sugar producers. We all know what should supposedly be the price of our refined sugar.”

Paul Azcona, acting SRA administrator, last week called for an SRP for sugar especially in Metro Manila where sugar is still sold at P110 per kilo.

Azcona said that there is enough supply of sugar so there is no reason retailers can’t bring down the prices affordable for consumers.

“Everyone is profiting enough to make it available to the consuming public at P85/kilo,” he pointed out.

The SRA has no power to enforce the SRP, Azcona said, and called on other government agencies, particularly the local government units to implement it.* (EYA)
